Healthy Snack Ideas

I want to share with you my go-to snacks I tend to eat on a regular basis. I like to stick to whole foods rather than processed foods. Snacks that are preferably made up of organic ingredients and that are beneficial to my body. Now that I am a mom, I also need snacks that are quick to grab and are easy to make. Anything I can eat with one hand is always a plus. So here is my list ...

1. Washed Fruit

Fruit, like apples and berries, is my favorite snack to have because it's easy and healthy. But if I don't have it washed and out in the refrigerator, I will be less inclined to chose it. I try to wash all my fruit as soon as I get it home from the store, that way its done right away and it's placed in the fridge where I can easily see it.

2. Cottage cheese and Mango

This combination is so good if you haven't tried it. It's this sweet and salty combination that goes really good together. A lot of times I don't have fresh mango on hand so I use frozen. Just let the frozen mango sit out to soften before eating. Oh and by the way, the frozen mango from Trader Joe's is the best!

3. Nuts and Dried Fruit

This one is so common, but I seriously have 1/3 of my pantry stocked with nuts/seeds/dried fruit. They are so so good for you. Just eat it in moderation especially dried fruit. Don't forget that fruit that's been dried, has been shrunk down so much ... so it's so easy to eat a lot of it without even realizing how many calories and especially sugar you've consumed. Not only is this a snack, but you can add it to oatmeal, yogurt, smoothies, you name it. What I like to do is make my own trail mixes with different combinations of nuts/seeds/dried fruit.

4. Rice Cake, Nut Butter and Frozen Banana

This tastes almost like dessert to me. My favorite rice cake is the Lundberg Farms Red Rice & Quinoa Thin Stackers. You get 4 thin rice cake squares that are 100 calories and 23 g of carbs. I only eat one or two at a time. I also always have frozen banana sliced in the freezer. I'll top my rice cake with any nut butter, add frozen banana on top and a sprinkle of cinnamon. It's great for breakfast, snack or dessert.

5. Chia Seed Pudding

I like to prep a few chia seed puddings in advance so I have them available.  It's all about meal prep! It's really easy to make chia seed puddings. It's a 1:4 ratio of chia seeds to your choice of milk. Then, add anything really to the mix. I'll usually add shredded coconut, sliced almonds, fruit and/or granola.

6. Bars

I don't love bars but they are great to have on the go. There's about 4 bars that I really enjoy. Both Elemental Bar and the Perfect Bar are found in the refrigerator section. The Kind Bar and RX BAR are also really good options.

Thanks for checking out this blog post! Please let me know what is your favorite go-to snack. I'd love to know :)
