Home Gym Must Haves

If you know me well, then you know I used to be a gym junkie. I used to hate working out at home, mainly because I didn’t think it was as effective as a gym workout. Well, I proved myself wrong. After having my baby I basically had two options.  Either I didn’t workout at all or I did my workouts at home. Again, if you know me well, not working out is not an option for me. So as soon as I got cleared from my OBGYN I started to workout at home consistently. Most of my equipment I already had but I bought a few more along the way.

You really don’t need much to have a really good workout. Doing body weight workouts with some HIIT can be just as effective. However, if you have some $ to spare and want some variety for a fun home workout then take a look at the list below. I will provide you with links to where I bought all my home gym must haves.

Booty Bands

If you want just one thing to workout with, then this is it. These little resistance bands (Amazon) don’t take up space and are super versatile. You can literally do a full body workout with just the bands. For workout ideas, check out my IG page (@Katb_fit)

Dumbbells

I would suggest having a light and medium weight pair. Light weight dumbbells can be anywhere from 3-5 lbs. Medium weight dumbbells can be anywhere from 8-10 lbs. If you would like a heavy set as well, then I would get somewhere between 15-20 lbs dumbbells. You can find some cute ones in different colors too if you’d like. Just keep in mind, they are sold online sometimes as an individual dumbbell, so make sure you are buying a pair.

Jump Rope

You can find one for under $10. Here is a good option from (Amazon). I love jumping rope as my cardio especially in between my workout circuit sets. It’s good to incorporate into your workout because it tones your upper and lower body muscles, increases endurance, and coordination.

Yoga Mat

You can find a decent mat for approximately $40 such as this mat (Gaiam-Amazon). It’s a great investment because it will last you a long time no matter what kind of workout you are doing, be it yoga or strength training. If you do want a higher quality mat then I really like the Lululemon mat or Alo yoga mat. Both pricey but will last you for years.

Step Platform

I wouldn’t say this is a must have but it really comes in handy. I like this stepper (Amazon) versus a long bench type one because it doesn’t take up much space. You can elevate your workout with a stepper and have even more variety with exercises.

Cute Water Bottle

If you are exercising or not, who wouldn’t want a cute water bottle anyways. Just a little motivation to help you drink more water. Remember you should be drinking at least half of your body weight in ounces of water.
